Klopp: UEFA must act on rule breaches

Jurgen Klopp believes UEFA must take action against Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain if they have broken the rules on Financial Fair Play.

German magazine Der Spiegel made a number of claims against City in a series of articles, which are based on documents purportedly attained from whistleblowers Football Leaks.

The reporting claims Sheikh Mansour s City regime have topped up multi-million-pound sponsorship deals with Abu Dhabi companies, using their owner s fortune, in order to meet UEFA s Financial Fair Play (FFP) stipulations.

Last Friday, when the Football Leaks stories emerged with allegations that City were cut a favourable FFP settlement when they were punished for overspending by UEFA in 2014, the club declined to comment on out of context materi…

Bournemouth 1 Swansea City 0: Swans´ Premier League status in real danger

Swansea City s Premier League status is in real danger after they lost 1-0 at Bournemouth, giving Southampton the opportunity to send them into the bottom three.

Carlos Carvalhal s men seemed to have done enough to secure another season in the top-flight in early March, but Saturday s defeat which was sealed by Ryan Fraser extended their winless run to seven league matches and leaves them just a point above the relegation zone, with Saints playing at Everton later in the day.

Regardless of the result at Goodison Park, the Swans must now prepare for a huge clash with Southampton at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday.

Swansea looked nervous right from the start and were lucky to remain level until the 37th minute, when Fraser s 20-yard effort took a wicked deflection …

Copa Libertadores Review: Veron makes Estudiantes comeback as Gremio stay perfect

Juan Sebastian Veron made a sensational return to professional football as Estudiantes lost to Barcelona in the Copa Libertadores, while Gremio preserved their 100 per cent record.

Club president and 42-year-old midfielder Veron started in 10-man Estudiantes 2-0 loss to Group 1 leaders Barcelona on Tuesday.

Veron was due to make his return on matchday one against Botafogo last month having made himself available after fans reached his target of box sales in Estudiantes new stadium.

The comeback was delayed because of a ban dating back to 2011, however Veron finally took to the field at Estadio Ciudad de La Plata but the former Argentina, Chelsea and Manchester United star was unable to prevent defeat against the Ecuadorian champions.

Dijon 0 Paris Saint-Germain 4: N 00001261 o Champions League hangover as Di Maria dazzles

Paris Saint-Germain began the process of putting another Champions League collapse behind them as they eased to a 4-0 Ligue 1 win at relegation-threatened Dijon.

Thomas Tuchel s men have again been left to lick their wounds following a European disappointment after surrendering a 2-0 first-leg lead against Manchester United in the last 16, losing 3-1 at Parc des Princes last week.

The inquest into their latest meltdown in Europe s biggest club competition will go on, but PSG did at least continue their procession to another Ligue 1 title in style at Stade Gaston-Gerard on Tuesday.

Kylian Mbappe, who said he has had trouble sleeping in the aftermath of the United defeat, had a goal sandwiched by fine finishes from Marquinhos and Angel Di Maria the latter a wonderf…

Former DFB president ´deeply saddened´ by Ozil situation

Mesut Ozil s decision to retire from international football as a result of feeling persecuted by the German Football Federation (DFB) has left their former president Theo Zwanziger deeply saddened .

Arsenal midfielder Ozil released a three-part statement on Sunday, addressing the criticism he has come under in recent months following his meeting with Turkey s controversial president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

While the German media, sponsors and even some fans were targeted by Ozil – who has Turkish roots – in his letter, current DFB president Reinhard Grindel bore the brunt of the midfielder s fury.

Grindel was accused of incompetence, belittling Ozil s Turkish heritage and scapegoating the playmaker for Germany s World Cup group stage exit, while the 29-year-ol…

AFC Champions League Review: Gamba snatch late winner, Al-Ahli cruise into last four

Gamba Osaka will meet Guangzhou Evergrande in the AFC Champions League semi-finals after a 3-2 victory over Jeonbuk Motors on Wednesday.

J.League champions Gamba, ACL winners in 2008, needed a stoppage-time winner from Koki Yonekura to seal their progression in the second leg, snatching victory from the grasp of their South Korean opponents.

After a goalless first leg, it was Jeonbuk who struck first in Suita as Leonardo converted a 13th-minute penalty, but Patric immediately levelled amid comical Gamba defending from a free-kick which saw an attempted offside trap hopelessly fail.

Shu Kurata looked to have put Osaka in the last four with a strike with 14 minutes to play, until Urko Vera levelled for the visitors, giving them the advantage via the away-goals rule…

City must kick United while they´re down – Kompany

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany said the Premier League champions must keep kicking neighbours Manchester United while they are down as the Red Devils continue to struggle following Alex Ferguson s retirement.

United have not won the Premier League since 2012-13 – Ferguson s final season at Old Trafford – with City enjoying a change in momentum and dominance in Manchester.

Pep Guardiola s record-breaking City finished 19 points clear of United last season, while Jose Mourinho s side have lost two of their opening three matches this season.

Kompany feels some sympathy for United, though he wants City to take advantage in the quest for more silverware.

Huddersfield in for Green

Huddersfield Town are interested in signing Leeds United goalkeeper Robert Green, according to the Mail Online.

Terriers boss David Wagner is keen to bring in competition for Jonas Lossl, who recently arrived at the club on loan from Bundesliga side Mainz and kept clean sheets in both of the side’s league games so far.

Green played every minute of Leeds’ 2016/17 Championship campaign though he hasn’t featured in the league so far this season following Felix Weidwald’s arrival from Werder Bremen.

Former England international Green moved to Leeds from Queens Park Rangers in the summer of 2016 after four seasons at Loftus Road while he has also played for West Ham United and Norwich City.

He was capped twelve times for England, with one of thos…

Cork feeling ´valued´ again at Swansea

Jack Cork says his switch from Southampton to Swansea City has made him feel valued again.

The midfielder joined Southampton from Chelsea in 2011, having previously enjoyed a loan spell at St Mary s Stadium during the first half of the 2008-2009 season.

However, Cork fell down the pecking order under Ronald Koeman this term and made just five starts before moving to Swansea in the last transfer window.

The 25-year-old has since become an integral part of Garry Monk s side and Swansea, who are eighth, are just four points adrift of Cork s former club with a game in hand to come against Arsenal on Monday.

Some people said I was going backwards, but for me it was about someone wanting me a bit more,  Cork told The South Wales Evening Post.
