Prediction: Chelsea vs Newcastle United

Premier League champions take on Newcastle United on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways following the last-grasp 1-1 draw against Manchester United last time out. Magpies are travelling to London eager to end their dreadful away form.

Chelsea

Guus Hiddink has managed to steady the ship following his arrival in December, as the Blues have embarked on a nine-match stretch without defeat. However what Dutch manager has yet been able to do is to have his team winning on the bounce. Chelsea failed to win back-to-back Premier League games during the entire season and Hiddink needs to put additional pressure on his team in order to get them back to winning ways. Blues are coming off from a 1-1 draw against Manchester United last weekend and they will be disappointe…

Marseille linked with Luis Hernandez

Marseille are considering a summer move for Sporting Gijon defender Luis Hernandez, according to El Comercio.

OM look set to stay without important defender Nicolas N Koulou, who is expected to leave Stade Velodrome for greener pastures when his contract expires in the summer.

Marseille are, therefore, in the market for his replacement and coach Michel has reportedly set his sights on Sporting Gijon centre-back Luis Hernandez.

The two men share the same agent, while they also worked together while at Real Madrid B some ten years ago.

Luis Hernandez came through the youth ranks at Santiago Bernabeu, but left the club in January 2012 without making a single appearance for los Blancos.

He has since managed to secure regular playing time, making 100 …

Valverde relieved to have ´unique´ Messi on his team

Ernesto Valverde says it will be a relief to have the unique Lionel Messi on his side, rather than coming up with plans to stop the Barcelona superstar.

Barca did the double over Valverde s Athletic Bilbao in LaLiga last season, while Messi also curled in a free-kick winner to knock Athletic out of the Copa Del Rey in January.

Prior to that, Messi hit a brace in the final of the 2015 Copa Del Rey against Valverde s Basque side and the new Barca coach he is glad he will no longer need to face the Argentine.

Of course Messi is a unique player and he will have a role whereby he can play in any position and play well, Valverde told reporters on Monday. Regardless of how we start the game, he will end up in defined positions.

Struggling Schalke sack Wagner

David Wagner has been sacked by Schalke after just two games of the new Bundesliga season, the club confirmed on Sunday.

Former Huddersfield Town boss Wagner was appointed ahead of the 2019-20 season and Schalke lost just twice in the first half of that campaign.

But their form plummeted from there, with Schalke ultimately finishing 12th and just seven points above the relegation zone last term.

An 8-0 hammering at champions Bayern Munich in their Bundesliga opener was followed by another poor showing in a 3-1 defeat at home to Werder Bremen on Saturday.

FC Schalke 04 have relieved David of his duties with immediate effect.

Maxwell not leaving Barca

The agent of Barcelona defender Maxwell has revealed that his client will not join Benfica in the winter transfer window.

The Portuguese giants are understood to be in the market for a new full-back as Joan Capdevila is widely expected to leave the club in January because of his lack of first-team opportunities.

Reports in Spain claimed earlier this week that Benfica were keeping an eye on Maxwell if they failed in their efforts to lure Cristian Ansaldi away from Rubin Kazan.

The Brazilian defender, who moved to Barcelona from Inter in 2009, has made only five club appearances this term, but his agent insists his client is not leaving the Spanish champions.

The only reason Maxwell has not been playing for Barcelona is because he was injured, Mino Raiola…
